Straight & Curved Stair Lifts

There are two types of stair lifts - Straight and curved. The first type is designed for the right, or straight, staircases. The footrest of the stair lift will normally stop level with the higher staircase. It can be possible to employ a stair lift right on some configurations of the curved staircases. The second, and a type generally much more expensive, “is made to measure” or “a curved stair lift of way” which can travel around the curves on the staircases and can be made to run above to the landing. The prices change according to the length of the staircases, the number of curves and the complexity of the curves. It is worth the effort to note that although much more expensive, the resale value is negligible, because the rail is custom made to the curved staircases measurement and can only be reinstalled on an identical staircase.

Curved stair lifts can be adapted on each side of the staircases, the type and style of your staircase will determine what is most suitable. If you need a curved stair lift you will have to pay a deposit to the company with which you deal. It will normally be approximately 30% of the total cost of the stair lift. The deposit is required because the company must build a custom rail for the stair lift which will fit only in your house. You should not have to pay a large deposit if you order an standard stair lift for a right staircase because those can usually be adapted to the use of another staircase. In certain circumstances it is possible to adapt a stair lift right on the staircases which have a turn with the top. For example if you have a right race of the staircases with three stages being rolled up on the landing.

Or a right flight and a landing quarter with two additional stages, a stair lift yielding platform could be the solution. A stair lift right is installed with the extended legs, thus the stops of footrest in conformity with the landing. A full wood platform is then established around the footrest of the elevator. This platform can then be employed without risk on the landing. The platform is articulated so that it can be folded behind and against the wall to make it possible for others in the house to use the staircase. It is also possible to have a platform actuated so that the user should not yield to raise it. Please note that the collapsible option of platform is not appropriate for all cases.
